Lorry and truck mounted loader cranes are the most common and widely used loader cranes in the transport and construction industry. Lorry loader cranes are highly effective and efficient at loading and unloading materials on site.

NPORS LORRY LOADER COURSE (N107)

This NPORS CSCS N107 Lorry Loader course will teach you how to operate a lorry loader.

COURSE CONTENT

During this course you will gain knowledge and understanding in:

• A basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a plant operator
• A working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook and other sources of information, regulations and legislation applicable to the particular machine to be used
• Be able to locate and identify the major components of the vehicle and loader crane and explain their functions
• Be able to locate and identify all operating controls and explain their functions
• Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with the manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
• Configure the vehicle and loader crane ready for travel
• Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely across varying terrain in open and confined areas
• Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
• Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and correctly configure in readiness to carry out lifting duties
• Correctly deploy the stabilisers according to stated manufacturer’s specifications
• Comply with all requirements for rated capacity indicators or load moment indicators
• Identify weights and centres of gravity of loads to be used
• Carry out lifting operations using the full capabilities of the loader crane
• Position loads accurately at designated locations including onto and from the vehicle
• Identify, fit and remove various attachments and lifting accessories as appropriate
• Minimise load swing and ensure load security on the vehicle
• Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

For Lorry Loader learners applying for the NPORS CSCS Card, or for those requiring the ‘HS&E TESTED Logo’ displayed on their card they must have passed the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment Test within the last 2 years.

A good understanding of spoken and written English.

ASSESSMENT

A mixture of classroom based teaching and group exercises with continuous oral and practical assessments.

CERTIFICATION

Once successful entrants who hold the requisite NVQ with the unit credits applicable to plant on their NPORS card will be issued with a valid Competent Operator card for 5 years. If the entrant does not hold the requisite NVQ with the units applicable they will be issued with a Trained Operator card valid for 2 years. During the 2 years they will be required to achieve the requisite NVQ which upon completion will issue them with a Competent Operator card for 5 years valid from the date of application.
